Bell/Cathedral Rock: From Earth to Heaven
Most Americans first heard about the Tree of Life found in the Garden of Eden within the Bible. There we learned it was at this time God drives Adam and Eve out placing Angels to guard the way back. The motive for doing so is pretty clear in that they ate of the tree of knowledge good and evil which somehow made the creator acknowledge humanity would also then seek to eat of the Tree of Life to ultimately become gods. A person really has to wonder what is really going on in this situation found in Genesis where there appears for the first time a deeply planted seed of possible transcendence available to humanity that is being kept hidden and concealed. Where is and what exactly is this Tree of Life has remained a matter of debate ever since the expulsion from the Garden of Eden.
The author of “The Gods of Eden” William Bramley reported one meaning of the Tree of Life is that it is an actual place that leads to physical immortality. He points out by looking at Mesopotamian writings a person can clearly see a big conflict emerging between humans and the gods in that the gods did not want humans to have immortality. Therefore by this interpretation, it appears there is some type of secret knowledge to attain a much longer physical lifespan. Nevertheless, this legend points to a time when heaven and earth were connected by huge humongous trees all pointing to the validity of the Bible and a VERY different world before the Biblical flood occurred. These trees according to chapter 66 in the Book of Enoch explains who cut these giants down stating:
“In those days the word of God came to me, and said, Noah, behold, thy lot has ascended up to me, a lot void of crime, a lot beloved and upright. Now then shall the angels labour at the trees; but when they proceed to this, I will put my hand upon it, and preserve it. The seed of life shall arise from it, and a change shall take place, that the dry land may not be left empty. I will establish thy seed before me for ever and ever, and the seed of those who dwell with thee on the surface of the earth. It shall be blessed and multiplied in the presence of the earth, in the name of the Lord.”
Therefore Nephilim specifically “angels labored at the trees” cutting the large ones down which reached clear into the heavens.
In the Bible Daniel 4:14 speaks of Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream of a Great Tree:
“As I lay on my bed, I also saw in the visions of my mind a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven. He called out in a loud voice: ‘Cut down the tree and chop off its branches; strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the beasts flee from under it, and the birds from its branches. But leave the stump with its roots in the ground.”
A whole book could be written on the many ancient references to giant trees. Today there is a growing number of people that believe many of the buttes and mesas we see used to be giant trees but now they are just remnants remarkably found all over the earth. There is Mount Connor in Australia, Benbulben in Ireland, Los Organos in the Canary Islands, Cerro Autana in Venezuela, and a host of other places in the world.
What’s really interesting about Cerro Autana in Venezuela is the native people of that area, the Pioroa, have a rich oral tradition of mythology which includes Cerro Autana as once being the “tree of life” a stump of “the sacred tree of the fruits of the world.” According to Wikipedia Piaroan mythology states:
“The tree-top went as high as the infinite, and its branches were full of fruits which fell and gave life to the Amazon.”
The Tree of Life is a symbol found in many civilizations passed down through history in writing and oral traditions. From the ancient Norse to ancient Indian texts like the Bhagavad Gita all speak about a tree who’s anchored to the earth with roots going deep into the underworld as branches go clear up into the heavens. Many assumptions have been made about how trees could have been this large and where they went. The evidence pointing to these large mountains and buttes being giant petrified tree stumps is very astounding. Not only do some areas look just like tree stumps, but they exhibit characteristics only found in biological organisms and trees.
Could certain what appear to be on the surface “rock formations” on earth, in fact, be petrified stumps of giant ancient trees that were somehow cut down by Angels? Some proponents of the theory have even gone so far as to suggest that most mountains on earth are evidence of not just trees being cut down, but destroyed. Normally the tale of trees going from heaven to earth and even down into the underworld wouldn’t be an issue in the what some consider to be mythical writing until a person begins to find all over the world evidence of these ancient giant trees that were here on earth but now are gone. Discovering physical evidence to back up the myths makes these ancient texts of myths/legends a little more worthy of notice.
The Tree of Life
Forests have played a prominent role in many folktales and legends. In these dark, mysterious places, people can face unexpected challenges and stumble on hidden secrets. A widespread myth in the world’s mythologies, the sacred tree of life is generally found in the religious and philosophical traditions. In many myths, a tree is a vital part of the structure of the universe. Various trees of life are recounted in culture and folklore, often referring to and relating to the gods and immortality.
“Gods and their messengers travel from world to world by climbing up or down the tree.”
Perhaps humanity’s most enduring symbol of divinity, the Tree of Life is a metaphor that has inspired many interpretations. Different religions call it by different names, each with its own mythology. Virtually everyone in the west has heard or even read the story in the Old-Testament. The tree of life first appears in Genesis 2:9 and 3:22-24 as the source of eternal life in the Garden of Eden. Like the Hebrews, virtually all ancient Near Eastern cultures have some account of a tree of life and of man’s quest to obtain its fruit. The tree is widely thought to represent the Divine Creator, and it is revered as the representation of the interconnectedness of all beings and the fruit it bore—also came to be associated with wisdom, knowledge, or hidden secrets. (This meaning may have come from the symbolic connection between trees and worlds above and below.) In Buddhism, the tree is a symbol of wisdom found in stories about the life of Buddha, who was said to have gained spiritual enlightenment while sitting under a tree. You’ll find the tree mentioned all over from Buddhism, China, Christianity, Catholicism, Celts, Egypt, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, Orthodoxy, Kabbalah, Taoism, Mormonism, Native America, Norse Mythology, and Mesoamerica (World Tree) to name but a few.
Izapa Stela 5
Known as the “Tree of Life” stone Izapa Stela 5 (Mesoamerica World Tree) some experts believe dates clear back to date from roughly 300 BCE to 50 or 100 BCE illustrates a Mesoamerican creation story which clearly shows a large tree connecting the sky above and the water or underworld below. One noteworthy element found in resting upon the branches are birds nesting in the tree.
Over the years since its discovery, there have been interpretations of what the “quasi-historical scene” may mean. Even some Mormons have attempted to claim the image was a representation of a tree of life vision found in the Book of Mormon. Nonetheless, the remarkable aspect about Stela 5 is the fact we find a sketch of exactly the same type of mysterious world tree that somehow keeps appearing in different forms all over the earth in many indigenous cultures depicted in the same general way. For example, just like in the Bible the Sumerian texts talk specifically about two trees.
You may know it as the central location of the Speilberg film “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” also more famously known as “Devil’s Tower.” There is a theory this is the remains of the insides of some type of giant tree that was destroyed or cut down. Although Devil’s Tower may seem unique there are many similar examples of this formation of supposed non-living rocks found all over the earth.
Arizona’s Petrified Forest
Among the great mysteries found in the American landscape are the peculiar rock mesas standing on the high desert territories of Arizona and the adjoining states at places like Mount Garfield in Colorado, Superstition Mountains, Arizona, Monument Valley, Arizona, and other places like Bell Rock, Arizona.
“Arizona’s Petrified Forest; a large mysterious area filled with what appear to be huge toppled petrified trees lying all over the ground composed of solid rock most cut in perfect parts so clean they appear to have been made by some kind of ancient power saw.”
Arizona’s Petrified Forest in its south, the Rainbow Forest in Navajo and Apache counties is full of colorful petrified wood scattered all over covering about 230 square miles with a lot of the ancient trees being chopped up. The Petrified Forest is especially known for its fossils of fallen trees that lived in the Late Triassic Epoch, about 225 million years ago along with giant reptiles called phytosaurs, large amphibians, and early dinosaurs. More than 600 archeological sites have been found inside the boundaries of Petrified Forest National Park.
Monument Valley, Arizona
Throughout the 19th century, white settlers considered the Monument Valley region—like the desert terrain of the Southwest in general—to be somewhat hostile and ugly. The first U.S. soldiers on record to explore the area called it “as desolate and repulsive looking a country as can be imagined.” Robert S. McPherson, author of “Sacred Land, Sacred View,” a book about the Four Corners region stated:
“As far as the Anglos were concerned, there was really not much going on out there, just lots of sand and rocks.”
Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park is located on the Navajo Nation – one of the largest American Indian tribes. The Navajo lived in an area today known as the Four Corners, where Utah, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico meet calling Monument Valley Tsé Bii Ndzisgaii, or “Clearing Among the Rock,” and regarded it as an enormous hogan, or dwelling, considers it a healing place with deep spiritual meaning with the two soaring buttes known as The Mittens to fit the hands of a god.
“Did you know that Dinéh, the Navajo, believe the Mittens fit the hands of the Gods, and at one time, Monument Valley was the Gods’ playground?”
The formations known as The Mittens are thought to be the hands of the gods, left as a sign that someday they will return and rule from Monument Valley.
The Navajo people hold the area to be sacred reporting sighting of Skinwalkers and other strange phenomena having their own favored “places of prayer” in different locations around Monument Valley and others nearby at “Valley of the Gods” where they are said to regularly hold and perform ceremonies no white person is allowed to attend. The Navajo are so protective of this area they are said to of killed two US soldiers serving under Kit Carson after attempting to mine silver in the sacred valley. The Mitchell Butte and Merrick Butte were named after the slain silver poachers.
Modern people who have attempted to enter off-trail areas have been turned away for reasons like filming without a filming permit. The Navajo are known to shut down the entire park to prevent people from going in when they want to venture in alone without a guide. The fact is there are certain areas nobody except the Navajo are not allowed to go. In 2018, “Witness in the Desert,” a project led by Derek Broes was totally stopped and the whole park was shut down for every visitor by the Navajo who called the venture a “cult” saying, “the group is carrying out an unauthorized cult-related activity.” Derek Broes responded to the allegations stating:
“We are not here to worship any demons, we are not bringing any demons, we are only here to learn what secrets of the earth holds of our past, of our ancient past. Obviously, the monuments here have an ancient history and the ancient peoples here … obviously, have some of those things. They’ve written about these extensively throughout their prophecies. So, that’s all we’re here for.”
Bell/Cathedral Rock, Arizona
Bell Rock is a popular landmark and tourist attraction just north of the Village of Oak Creek, Arizona, south of Sedona. Look at Courthouse Rock, next to Bell Rock, and you find it is a red rock version of the Devil’s Tower. Devil’s Tower was a sacred site to the Native American and so are the similar formed/shaped rock formation found sprouting up out of the ground near Sedona, Arizona.
There is a wealth of remarkably-preserved evidence of human activity from as far back as 10,000 years throughout the Bell/Cathedral Rock area. The Hopi, who are most likely direct descendants of the Anasazi, is perhaps best known for their rich spiritual life. Like the Hopi, the Yavapai tribe have creation stories relating to great floods and floating on “tree trunks” after coming up out of the underworld where the tree trunk came to rest on top of Thunder Mountain where a woman was said to of had relations with something said to of looked very much like the sun that spoke described as a god ultimately giving birth to the Yavapai people.
Throughout recorded history and even into children's stories a person can find mention of giant trees/plants. Since Devil’s tower is a tree stump one can only marvel at not only how big the tree was, but at how big Paul Bunyan must have been to be able to cut something like it down. In the English fairy tale, Jack and the Beanstalk, Jack meets a bean dealer who offers magic beans in exchange for a cow which Jack makes the trade. Sometime during the night, the magic beans cause a gigantic beanstalk to grow. The next morning, Jack climbs the beanstalk to a land high in the sky where he finds a castle and a giant. The giant in the fairy tale was cannibalistic clearly evident when Blunderbore states:
Fee-fi-fo-fum! I smell the blood of an English man:Be he alive, or be he dead,I’ll grind his bones to make my bread.
Oddly, these places have a high rate of UFO reports/activity like which is found here in the Sedona/Verde Valley and the fact there was found the bodies of giants to go with the legendary huge Jack and the Beanstalk myths in the region. Were the local giant remains found in the area the product of union with a human and an angel many years ago as is found in the Yavapai creation story or was it from some large tree that had been cut down under the order of God by Angels?
A person can believe what scientists (geologists) are speculating happened over millions of years ago at places like Bell Rock and Monument Valley of being isolated eroded rock formations formed by sandstone deposits and geologic uplift and then shaped by wind and water or ancient peoples along with their 1,000s year old texts speaking of the antediluvian period (before the flood) where great trees existed harboring gods.
The Tree of Life has come to bear many different shades of meaning. The essential thing to understand is that human beings and other consciousnesses are all part of this tree of life here on earth. If there is a universal tree of life present all around us in other culture as the evidence shows us on earth than how do we go about deciphering the code in its branches and discovering the truth therein? It must be duly noted it was the partaking of the knowledge of good and evil which led to the understanding of the tree of life. One led to the other in what seems to be a climb ever upwards where we as humans are intimately connected to trees physically and in a spiritual way. Spirit actually comes from the word for “breath”, and trees serve as the lungs of our earth. We breathe in oxygen and breath out carbon dioxide; they breathe in the carbon dioxide and breath out oxygen. The Tree of Life meaning tells us that although we are rooted in the earth, we are all reaching for the spiritual realms. Here on earth, we are each separate, there we are one.
