Camp Verde Bugle: Publisher of FAKE News
Newspapers are supposed to report the facts all the time or make corrections when they are wrong. Here’s one case where they would rather ruin a local man's life with half-truths then tell the truth.
A local resident kept prompting a couple people in this venture to look into a case where the Camp Verde Bugle published information in its local newspaper and online that was untrue which according to him has affected his life for the worst all of a sudden in the last couple years. Of course there are many people with tales of this sort of thing happening in the world especially online where Wikileaks has proven there is no secrecy about anything anymore at all but this case struck this reporter as being a little odd because it was obvious by the information he was sending showed the Camp Verde Bugle was indeed not telling the whole truth.
In the man’s own words:
“Sometime around the end of December 2007, I was at my Mothers residence at Mountain View RV Park with at the time girlfriend Jennifer and cat watching a movie that started to show content I was not at all comfortable watching. An argument broke out shortly thereafter between myself and Mother to which Jennifer, the cat, and I jumped into the truck and left in the late evening time when it was completely dark. While leaving the park upset in a 1985 Ford Ranger with a 2.9 liter V6 I did go around the corner leaving the park fast causing gravel to fly while I traveled onto Western Drive heading to get on Cornville Road. This noise caused the cat who was next to me to freak out which then dug its claws into my body like what I later said was a “demon.” The result was that while I was fighting with a crazy cat I did not stop which caused the vehicle to come to a stop on the other side of Cornville Road. Just before the impact, Jennifer jumped out landing on Cornville Road. Once I saw Jennifer laying on the road I went to help her get up out of the road because there was oncoming traffic. Once I grabbed her and lifted her up vehicles stopped and people jumped out and then began assaulting me thinking I was assaulting Jennifer. These people, at least 3 men, then beat me up after I had just been in an auto accident. They stole my money, almost $500.00 in cash, and Jennifer’s money out of her wallet.
The Yavapai Sheriff came put cuffs on me and took me to jail. It was at this time I told the officer he better attach the end of the leash they had on me to “holy ground” for I was really pissed off then for what had just happened! Once I get to the jail they asked for a urine sample so I gave it. It came back positive for marijuana and amphetamines. Once I was formally charged the next day I obtained an attorney out of Flagstaff and was released by the court a very short time later without posting any bail whatsoever.
The Camp Verde Bugle ran a nasty article about me in the paper a short time later which the supposed victim of the assault Jennifer contacted them along with other witnesses that night telling them the story was false. (The other witnesses that night were residents at Mountain View RV Park and Mother who witnessed everything.)
I also explained that I had maintained a residence in Colorado where I visited regularly thus the marijuana in my system and was also on amphetamines prescribed by my doctor after having blown out a disk in my back helping an elderly woman move in Cottonwood. My doctor said I was disabled and put me on narcotic pain pills which were making me sleepy so he gave me an amphetamine to counter react the effect.
Now I’m no angel and have been a knucklehead at times partying it up in the past when I didn’t know how to deal with my problems but I have always taken responsibility for my actions and this did not at all happen the way the Camp Verde Bugle has posted. I committed no assault “EVER” but only tried helping someone who was injured. There’s no way anyone saw me assault anyone, only touched an injured person. In the end, I walked away with the only things I was guilty of which was a DUI for Marijuana in my system and for knowingly touching an injured person both misdemeanors.”
At first, the man’s story didn’t add up but once the information came in that was requested the Verde Valley Eye was amazed. The man provided medical records providing he was on amphetamines at the time which would produce positive urine test samples for anything amphetamine-related including Meth. (The only way to determine if there was indeed Meth present in addition to amphetamines in the urine sample was to have it sent to a professional lab.)
Since all three felony charges were dismissed as well as other charges the disposition of this case seems to say there was no Meth or other serious crimes committed like is reported by the Camp Verde Bugle. If Meth had been present there is no way the state of Arizona is going to let a guy off who had just reportedly beaten up a woman while high on the stuff and drove around recklessly endangering the lives of so many other people as well with a 5,000 lb weapon. What’s even more amazing is how supposed victim later married the man twice and actually worked for the state of Arizona before, during, and after their marriages. (If someone was high on Meth and beat up another forcing that person to dive out a truck at 60-70 miles per hour that person then surely wouldn’t marry the person thereafter twice but would run like hell in the other direction.)
Then when you look at the report itself posted by the Camp Verde Bugle it says a truck was going 60-70 miles an hour as it crossed the Cornville Road intersection according to witnesses. These same witnesses say they saw the driver assaulting the passenger who then jumped out while the vehicle was moving. How do Jennifer and the driver jump out of a moving vehicle at 60-70 miles an hour and only survive with minor injuries? Seems very odd. The man’s truck had tinted windows and this was winter time late at night so the windows were up, therefore, how could these reported witnesses see what is reported they seen? (Actually, to be honest, the more one looks into this story the more it starts to smell...)
The driver, the supposed victim, and other witnesses reportedly did try and to get the Camp Verde Bugle to retract their questionable article to no avail. The Camp Verde Bugle did do a recent update called an “Editors Note” 10 years later after the incident but it still didn’t retract the false statements it provided and continues to do despite evidence to support otherwise. The Camp Verde Bugle did indeed post the half-truths about a local resident and would not at all investigate what they posted to be factual even when presented evidence proving the allegations were false. When you have a local paper publishing this kind of falsehood against a person in the apparent attempt to produce overly dramatized “FAKE NEWS” that effects lives adversely then its time to start questioning such, for if this can happen to one person in the community it most likely has and can happen to others which makes this something to be very concerned with.
This reporter also asks the question of what else has been reported by the Camp Verde Bugle that falls under this category of being “FAKE NEWS?” Is publishing these kinds of “legendary stories” worth the cost in the end of attempting to nail a person on the public cross and leaving them there until the courts work out the truth? Then when the ruling comes forth the paper suspiciously still does not fix the problem. How come the paper does not give the person being victimized the chance to defend themselves in these public places online? The fact they don’t is in itself suspicious and goes to show just how one-sided the situation really is.
“The Camp Verde Bugle appears to be more interested in ‘public execution’ then reporting the truth in this case.”
After investigating this case the Verde Valley Eye has no respect at all for the Camp Verde Bugle for posting this kind of news which truly would affect anyone’s life adversely. Why wait 10 years to do a half-assed job of fixing what was clearly wrong to begin with? Posting outright obvious half-truths of this nature about a person is very questionable especially when they have been provided evidence proving otherwise or given the opportunity to review.
This story gets even more interesting for it appears this information was reportedly archived many years ago and never showed up online. However, it wasn’t until a recent report was filed with the Camp Verde Marshals Office concerning members of the community illegally accessing and creating a back door of the hosting account for the Verde Valley Chamber of Commerce and its clients of which all files were downloaded the slanderous news article mysteriously reappeared after many years. Is it just an odd coincidence the Camp Verde Bugle waited around 8 years to publish a story online that does not tell the whole truth at the same time when this person could have sued known members in the community for major damages? When you take a look at this case it’s very clear someone wanted to smear somebody all of a sudden after years and years which is rather odd.
The Camp Verde Bugle did very recently make a small adjustment to their story online after again being bombarded with information and requests to meet in person to defend their actings stating:
Editor’s Note: According to the Arizona Supreme Court public records on this incident, two counts of endangerment were dismissed April 30, 2007. A third count of endangerment had the judgment and conviction set aside by the court June 6, 2011. The court dismissed one count of DUI April 30, 2007. He was convicted of another count of DUI April 30, 2007. He also was convicted on a charge of assault/knowingly touch April 30, 2007.
Sure the information does indeed show what the person has been saying all along but it does not, in fact, fix the problem of what is being said to begin with for the paper did not retract the original half-truth story at all. The attorney who handled the criminal case for this person of interest specifically stated on the phone before this reporter the paper is indeed liable in civil court for what they have been posting.
It does seem that if you discover information from the court itself who handled the case which disproves what you originally wrote such would be dismissed at once for the result of causing harm of this nature to someone is by far worse than posting half-true stories suspiciously many years later. The person who’s been obviously victimized by the Camp Verde Bugle would go on to state:
“What’s even crazier is how you can’t even go on the Camp Verde Bugles website and defend yourself against the obvious lies. If you leave a post they just delete it. Plus you have to login to see any posts. It’s like being nailed up on a cross and not being able to do anything about it. I can’t even begin to tell you how much my life had been adversly affected by an agency I thought was supposed to be upright and true.”
Just yesterday this reporter was present when the Camp Verde Bugle was informed once again:
“The story you have posted about me is totally untrue, FAKE NEWS... Also seems awefully strange how this article was archieved until recently. I contacted the attorney who represented me in this case and he has informed me to seek civil damages against you for posting these complete half-truths. Have contacted you over and over with proof, and so have the supposed victim. You are not at all interested in the TRUTH but post LIES and that’s a shame showing your true character in this great community.”
Lastly, the person the Camp Verde Bugle claims was high on Meth beating up a person so bad she dives out of trucks at 60-70 miles an hour, and drives recklessly while intoxicated also commanded an elite group of law enforcement professionals in Phoenix and handed out 100’s of badges in the state of Arizona with the supposed victim by his side for years thereafter, another odd thing you wouldn’t find out of your every day “Tweeker.”
There’s just something not right with the story presented by the Camp Verde Bugle and it’s so obvious, it kinda actually smells like B.S...
The Verde Valley Eye challenges the Camp Verde Bugle to disprove this “completely true” story...
